Last week, I stopped over at a local grocery story around lunchtime to grab a bite to eat. Out front, they were running an open-air grill selling the basics; hamburgers, red and white hotdogs, chips, and drinks. I ordered a couple burgers and stood to the side, waiting for my order to come up. As I was waiting, I noticed a sticker on the cash register, announcing something to the effect that the state health department recently suggested to open-air food vendors that they pre-cook their food before preparing it to serve to customers.

Okay, okay. I played CoH for ONE HOUR. I couldn’t help myself.

The worst part was that when I wasn’t getting my ass handed to me, I couldn’t find anything of high enough level to win me XP to pay off my debt. So I racked up a bunch more XP debt biting off more than I could chew, then I ran around and avoided everything as I sought out an enemy I could handle. When I wasn’t doing that I was looking for someone to Exemplar with so I could work off the XP debt faster.

No suck luck. Gah.

I just took a peek at my weekend numbers, and unsurprisingly the number of visitors I received dropped to about half the usual trickle. I really shouldn’t be surprised, and I’m not. I’ve been neglecting the hell out of my site, so why should people stop by to read it? I guess I could’ve just hit Ping-o-Matic every half-hour or so and kept the readers coming in, but that’s dishonest. You shouldn’t be pinging unless your blog has something new in it to read.

City of Heroes has sucked me in big-time.

I spent about an hour downloading enough data to have kept my old 56K of 2 years ago busy for about a week, all for the purpose of starting to play a 14-day trial of City of Heroes. I wasn’t really that excited — walk and kill things, whoop-de-do, right? Uh-huh.

Well, it happened. Tonight I was talking with my buddy, and he asked me if I had a “real computer” yet. It took me two seconds, and then reality dawned on me.

This guy has been trying to recruit me to play City of Heroes for a while now, and my primary objection to playing was that I was running a 3 year-old box with barely enough hardware to keep up with my meager surfing habits. A couple weeks back, I got a new computer that runs about 5 times as fast, has 4 times as much memory and 4 times as much storacy capacity.

So tonight he pops the question, and the sound of “D’OH!” was heard echoing through the land.

I dunno. It seems like all you do is run around and kill stuff. I hope it’s fun. If it is, rock. If not, suck. I guess I’ll find out when my 1GB download finishes in half an hour or so.

If nothing else, this is a testament to how far I’ve come in the last 5 years in terms of technology. Not so long ago, a 0.1GB download was a “start it before I go to bed and hope that it doesn’t terminate with errors before I wake up” kind of thing. Now I can swipe something 10 times as big in less than an hour.

I’ve heard some vague rumours that Christopher Walken might be considering a run for President. If he does, he’s got my vote, hands-down.

Apparently, there was a big parade in town today. Six area fire departments showed up with all their men, all their trucks, and all their sirens screaming. Shriners were zipping around in those crazy little cars, honking their pathetic little horns. People were cheering, laughing, clapping and whistling loudly.
