The Moral of the Story

September 19th, 2005 @ 0023 hours (Rants)
by Doc Syn

I am so sick and tired of people telling me that we shouldn’t judge anybody else’s culture, religion, or general perspective on life; that all religions and cultures are equal.

I am a firm believer in the idea that there is a universal moral code that should cross borders, language barriers, religions affiliations, geographical features, from the north to the south pole of the Earth. I will freely admit that I can’t sit here in front of my trusty, high-speed box and pound out so much as one single line of this moral code. This is for two reasons:

1) I’m not elequent enough.
2) I can suspect that something is wrong, but I really only know it when my stomach turns.

I do believe that every human being, every organization, every military, every governmental entity can be held to this standard, without exception. I will, in all fairness, make the following additional observations:

1) No one government on the face of the earth is true to this code. Not even that of the United States.
2) Even my own neighbors often wish to disregard this code when it suits them.

If you’re wondering what got me thinking along these lines, you’re welcome to read this discussion on the subject of the mistreatment of women, in regards to genital mutilation.

I really have nothing else to say on the subject.

Well, okay, I do have one more thing to say. Moral relativism sickens me to the core of my being.

Six Feet Deep

September 10th, 2005 @ 1356 hours (General Crap)
by Doc Syn

I don’t know how many of you into rap, so you may or may not find this interesting. My wife, for example, hates it in all forms. I, on the other hand, like the stuff that’s funny or political or social commentary, while at the same time hating “bitches” this and “bust a cap in yer ass” that.

So anyway, way back in the day a friend of mine gave me a bootleg of a bunch called the Gravediggaz. They had only 2 or 3 full-length albums, and Six Feet Deep was the only one I’ve ever heard or owned. Anyway, this bunch is more funny than anything else, assuming that you’ve got a sick sense of humor like I do.

A Decade Passes … Holy Bob

September 4th, 2005 @ 0109 hours (Relationships, Big-Ticket Items)
by Doc Syn

I’ve been with the wife for 10 years now, and we’re celebrating our anniversiary today … officially, at least. We’ve got three of those, depending on which you count as the official commencement of our relationship. It can get a little confusing, so mostly I wake up each day thankful that she hasn’t gotten sick of my crap. I’m not all that old, neither mentally nor officially, but 10 years seems like a damn long time. There’s a lot of history that’s taken place between the two of us in the past decade, a lot of warm fuzzies and cold pricklies. I look back and wonder how I survived some of them with my sanity intact, how I survived some of them with my hide intact, even how I survived some of them with our relationship intact. It’s been a wild, wild ride.

Justice Dies

September 4th, 2005 @ 0043 hours (Politics)
by Doc Syn

If the axis of the United States isn’t shifting because of the “war on terror,” or because of a storm that wipes out a costal city, or fuel prices shooting through the roof, it’s something like this:

And I Quote…

Chief Justice William H. Rehnquist died Saturday evening at his home in suburban Virginia, said Supreme Court spokeswoman Kathy Arberg.

A statement from the spokeswoman said he was surrounded by his three children when he died in Arlington.

“The Chief Justice battled thyroid cancer since being diagnosed last October and continued to perform his dues on the court until a precipitous decline in his health the last couple of days,” she said.

Sometimes I wish I was the man on the moon. Maybe then I could watch and be ammused instead of scared.

Katrina

I realize that approximately 1,000,000,000,000,000 things have already been said about the disaster that came about when Katrina struck land here in the States in the Gulf coast region. I will summarize my most pressing thoughts (as of my last news scan) thusly:
