I’d like to share a little lost history with you all: the MOO, and @zog.
I am not a sneaky bastard. Sometimes it’s hard for me to express my emotions, mainly because I don’t understand them, but I do try to be up-front in the things I say and do. I think it’s safe to say that close to 100% of the people I hang out with would tell anybody that I’m honest, straightforward kind of guy; the kind of person who can be taken at his word, and will let you know full well when he has a problem with something you’re doing.
One of the reasons I enjoy LARPing so much is that it gives me a creative outlet to explore being sneaky, underhanded, and generally a slippery guy. Oh, my characters are always honest guys deep down inside, and they always have a cause they’re obsessed with, mainly because that’s how I am. At the same time, I’m able to depart from being 100% honest with my foes, bend or break a few moral rules, kick some ass, and run shell games on my enemies. I get to explore the finer points of cut-throat politics, word-mincing, scheming, plotting, insurrection, and murder for hire. I can look at my dark side and play a round of poker with it whenever I want with no questions asked and no price for my consience to pay.
It’s a liberating, invigorating experience, because even on the nights I get caught up in the character, even when I get upset or elated or jaded with the outcome of one situation or another, I can always leave the character behind when I leave the game for the night.
In other words, The Line (the one that seperates fantasy from reality) is very clear for me.
Sadly, a lot of the same kind of intrigue is playing out in my life in the real world, and there’s no Line for me to step across.
I often joke that the wife is allergic to me, and not without reason.
. . . my contact list would be the set for the filming.
That’s because most of the people I exchange IMs with are from Buffalo, and a couple nights ago they got spanked like a bunch of naughty altarboys. I’d say they had a snowstorm, but that wouldn’t go anywhere near doing justice to just what happened. About 400,000 people wound up without electricity, and that was just the beginning.
Anybody else around here read the Dark Tower series, by Stephen King?
Here are my thoughts on it.
This morning I was poking around in the database that holds all of the data for this wee little blog . . . and I managed to delete the entire database.
Within the space of a few minutes, my web providor was able to restore it to the last backup, which by coincidence was done just after I went to bed this morning.
Martin, you’re my new best friend. Well, drinking buddy, anyway.
I love you, Esosoft. I just wanted to take this opportunity to say, “Thanks!”
